Look at the Birds

“Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” - Matthew 6:26
I think of the above words Jesus spoke to worriers, and I can’t help but picture the birds in my front yard, how carefree they are and light as a feather. I think having wings gives them this freedom, and oh, were we as mankind to have wings, the places we’d soar.
I think of all the little worries in the world that trouble a heart like a yours or mine, all the heavy burdens we’re apt to carry, you and me. And I can’t help but know Adonai extends His arm to carry them all. I cling to this. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest,” Jesus says in Matthew 11:28. And He means it, and most times I forget it.
But when I remember, suddenly I’m light as a feather and weightless enough to fly beyond horizons my mind could never perceive, because we too can soar to places only the God of Heaven could take us.
Someday we’ll all wake up, and the pain in this life will be as if in a bad dream. And it’ll be morning soon, and we’ll realize whose eyes we’ve awoken to, the same Ones staring at us from the beginning of time to this moment; the same Ones we’ll dance forever through eternity with. We’ll reach the shores of time and discover that place so many who have gone before us have reached--the place we’ll call home.
But until then, we’ve a life to live and so many places to see. We’ve got people to love and so many hands to hold, and hearts that were made to adore, you and me. Until then, there are so many faces we’ve yet to look upon and know, so many experiences to delight in and see.
So why stop here?
When there’s so much beyond these horizons these eyes can’t reach, perhaps this means we are meant to fly there.
“But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” - Isaiah 40:31
