“Daughter, Your Faith Has Made You Well”

And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace. Your suffering is over.” - Mark 5:34
How many of us has Jesus met at the point of death, and He laid His hands on us, and we were healed?
Coming to life doesn’t come without a process of its own, often unpleasant. It’s like a seed buried into the ground taking its time to sprout. The resistance and striving this takes oftentimes I find can mirror the human experience.
And yet what comes to life, is the kind of thing worth sharing entire testimonies about. The world is full of them even now.
This week I was drawn to the Gospel of Mark, my favorite in how it’s written. In reading the story of how Jesus heals both a woman with an incurable condition and a synagogue leader’s daughter, I thought about how great is it that we can come to Him out of sheer desperation.
Whether it’s Jairus, the father in the story whose daughter was at the point of dying and who tells Jesus, “My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well and live” (Mark 5:23).
Or if it’s the woman who was healed from a 12-year condition, whose story is so famous in the Christian community and maybe even beyond. She tells herself, “If I touch even his garments, I will be made well,” in Mark 5:28.
These and more, demonstrate that it’s never a terrible thing to be desperate for Him, to hunger and thirst, to reach out sometimes with trembling hands and take a hold of Him. To look for Him and long for Him even in a place of wandering.
Maybe He’ll meet you on the ground like He did the woman He healed in Mark, or in a tree like He did Zacchaeus in Luke, or in the midst of a transgression like He did King David in Psalm 51. But no matter what, Adonai never despises our coming in weakness, though the world always will.
And what we gain as a result of our coming? Him. ☺
It is written:
“But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God” (1 Corinthians 1:27-29).
“But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me” (2 Corinthians 12:9).
“For the joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10).
So may He find you, dear one,
wherever you are. ☺
