But for a Brief Moment

But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. - 1 Corinthians 1:27-29

And here lies a truth of the Gospel.

I’m astounded at the Father’s heart sometimes because He cares so much for the lowly. I sit in awe and wonder sometimes at how blessed we are that this is the King of the universe—Jesus.

My favorite thing about Him is how He uses the weak things of the world to shame the strong, and the foolish things to shame the wise. This is great news, and for this, my soul rejoices.

Why did you do it, Lord?

Was it so that I can look up at You and find You in the deep, but also on the mountaintop where the sun shines as clearly as the day, and there’s nothing in this world that could hold me back from gazing into Your presence?

Jesus, was it so I could sit with You in the deep of morning, beholding the sunshine and the clear breezes from my window, how they stroke everything in animated traces of life? I’d trace them all the way to the stars.

Was it so I could wake up to Your eyes early mornings, when it’s still dusk outside and the sun hasn’t yet decided to rise? And as the world still drifts silently between slumber, it’s just You and me, Jesus.

Because somewhere, off in the universe, there are we—You and me, sitting in the places this world can’t reach. And for a moment, I’m home.

Yes, in the place my soul knows exists, but can’t quite find,

I’ve finally found in You,

Jesus.

“My soul makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble hear and be glad.” - Psalm 34:2
